When I look at the physical fitness industry today it is painfully obvious that the industry is more concerned with maximizing specific skills than building better humans.Basically, the fitness industry has been divided into two fields… muscle growth and aerobic ability. But make no mistake about it, physical training is about becoming an improved human, better suited to meet the challenges of sport, work and life with excellence under the greatest amount of circumstances.Physical training is not about maximizing muscle growth so you look good in your t-shirt or the ability to sustain long, monotonous aerobic activity. To become a better human, you must use your physical training for fitness optimization… not physical skill maximization.Physical fitness optimization is the acceptable and deliberate compromise of competence and ability to perform in ALL the areas of cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and toughness to produce optimum performance results under the greatest amount of circumstancesYes… fitness optimization is the understanding that true physical fitness is a compromise.Your fitness level is comprised of your ability to perform using all the physical abilities mentioned in a seamless and coordinated fashion to complete any task at any given point in time.Physical fitness is not, and should not, be measured by the physical skill maximization of just one of these skills.True physical fitness has to do with your physical ability to perform the widest variety of tasks under the greatest diversity of circumstances… not maximizing one physical ability to perform one task under controlled circumstances.Strangely, the trend seems to be to use physical training to maximize one physical ability at the expense of all others… actually making the person less fit.If you spend all your training time improving only one facet of fitness… your weaknesses will greatly outnumber your strength. You will have become so specialized that you are unfit for most circumstances encountered in sport, work and life… and I am sure that was not your goal when starting a physical fitness training program.Let’s get one thing straight…I am not against muscle growth and aerobic capacity… I am against the fitness industry’s unbalanced focus on muscle growth and aerobic capacity at the expense of true physical fitness.Isolated muscle exercises performed on limited motion machines combined with extended aerobic sessions is not the path to strength, conditioning and fitness excellence… no matter what the fitness industry’s marketing machine says.Commit yourself to strength, conditioning and fitness optimization if your goal is to develop performance improvements in all the 10 physical skills and produce a body that performs as good as it looks. If your current physical fitness workout program is designed more for physical skill maximization… change it!Because there is one thing that I know for sure…If you have functional strength, superior conditioning and fitness excellence there will be times in sport, work and life that you need them… and if you don’t, there will be times when you wish you did.
If you are the kind of person who loves being fit it is quite possible that you would excel at a career in the fitness industry. But what do you need to start up such a career? Nothing can be done these days without the proper certification. Not only will taking a fitness course train you how to start up your own business in the fitness industry, having the correct certification will protect you from making mistakes that could result in litigation.Taking a fitness course could well change your life. Starting up your own fitness business means that you can never be fired from your job because you are the boss. Commitment and motivation are required by anyone looking to start up their own business no matter what industry it is in, but the rewards make it all worthwhile. Helping other people to become healthy and fit the way nature intended them to be is one of the best rewards. To take a fitness course you need to be not only really interested in being fit, but you do need to have a level of fitness that many other people don’t have in this day and age. Jobs and careers that require a great deal of sitting around at a desk will not make a person fit. But it still makes them tired and then they are too tired to go out afterward and do exercise. And of course, the less fit they become, the more tired they remain, so it’s a vicious circle. You can be the one to help them onto the fitness pathway. When you do this, you are actually helping each person to potentially live a longer, more rewarding life. Remember, anything that is worthwhile doing takes a bit of effort, but once you get started it becomes much easier. Taking that fitness course may be the best thing you ever did.
Getting the right personal trainer for your fitness goal may not be as straight forward as many people think especially in regards to getting the right results. After all, who wants to end up looking in the wrong or worse shape than they started off? The problem is anyone can get a fly-by-night online personal training certification and claimed that he is a qualified personal trainer even without proper practical experience. In fact, there are literally hundreds of personal training certifications out there and there is only a handful that meets the highest standard. Unfortunately, most people who are looking for personal trainers do not have an idea what are the reputable certifications they should be looking out for.Although you can be in good hands when you find a “superstar” trainer, it does not guarantee success in achieving your fitness goals. A great personal trainer is certainly not a magic bullet. All he can do for you is motivate you, show you the right way and become a vital resource for you. In the end, your level of success depends on your level of commitment to the program.Like all things, there are personal trainers who are better at their job and with their advance knowledge and experience they can get the most out of you than you trying on your own. Certainly, some are just being in the profession to earn some part-time cash and may not be into training. How do you find the right trainer for yourself? What do you look for? Let’s look at the following:What are their relevant qualifications?First and foremost, the level of education or training is an important factor you must consider when getting a personal trainer. Having a college degree in exercise science certainly helps but it should not be judged as a sole determinant on the quality of the fitness professional. There are many great personal trainers who do not have a college degree but still have in-depth knowledge in training. However, the trainers should be at least certified by reputable international fitness certification agencies. So what are the good few one? They are as followed but by no mean limited to the following:American College School Medicine (ACSM) Certified Personal Trainer or Health Fitness SpecialistNational Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Personal TrainerChek InstituteNational Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)American Council on Exercise (ACE)YMCAAs a personal trainer in Perth Western Australia, I know for a fact most of the fitness trainers in Australia do not hold the above mentioned certification. This is because the tightly regulated fitness industry requires the personal trainers to hold Cert IV Fitness Qualification, a set minimal Australian national vocational standard, to conduct personal training services. Therefore, you are most likely to find a qualified fitness professional with at least Cert IV qualification in Australia. However, all the paper qualification counts for nothing if he or she does not have industry experience. What are their Industry Experiences?Depending on your fitness goals, you should find out about the type of experience the trainers have. Some of them can be more specialized in strength and conditioning in sports, rehabilitation or weight loss. If you are seeking results, be sure to look for someone who is specialized in your area. Although it can be very impressive to hear of someone having more than 10 years of experience in the fitness industry, it is important to ask about the work experience, seminars and relevant certification courses he or she had attended. You will be surprised that some of them do very little in their careers to stay current to the latest practice and trend in fitness. Are they insured?Be sure to ask about liability insurance. Have yourself covered. No matter how good the trainer can be, there is always going to be an inherent risk to exercising. Not having liability insurance may also be a sign that the “trainer” is not adequately certified. Especially in Australia, it is not possible to get liability insurance if you are not a member of the Fitness Australia and not hold a Cert IV fitness qualification.Do they have Testimonials? If the personal trainer you are seeking out has been in the fitness industry for some years, he or she should have written testimonies from his former and existing clients. So don’t be afraid to ask for testimonies and make a call or two and find out what other people are saying about the trainer. If he is specialized in weight loss, he should have before and after pictures of his clients to show for.How about you?It is important that the prospective trainer you meet does not just talk about his great careers achievements and certifications that he holds without asking about you. After all, personal training is about you and your fitness goals. At the very least, the personal trainer should find out about your specific fitness goals, exercise history, past and present medical conditions and current lifestyle. If the fitness professional shows no interest in why you are meeting him or her for, it is better to look for a trainer somewhere else. The aforementioned guidelines are not hard and fast rules on what you should be looking for in a personal trainer. It is intended to help you in your decision to get the best possible personal trainer for your fitness goals. In the end, it boils down to personal preferences and the rapport you have with the prospective personal trainer that you meet. However, do bear in mind that it is YOU that have to make things work! Be sure to work closely with the personal trainer you choose for the best outcomes.
One of my initial thoughts about the release of the Apple iPad is it’s potential use in the fitness industry. More specifically how gyms, personal training studios, personal trainers, and other fitness facilities or fitness professionals could use this new device as a tool to draw in and retain members. There might be a few road blocks for a fitness facility adopting use of the Apple iPad, but I think it can be done and be very cost effective. One of the main challenges a gym or a personal training studio faces is how to draw in members and keep them. Attrition can make or break a facility, so it’s important that a gym maintains a healthy relationship with its members. Not to mention the boom of fitness franchises around the country has made it easier and easier to open a health club. The recent increase of places to workout has made it increasingly difficult for each individual gym to stand out from the rest.Think about it? No matter how you spin it, a gym is a gym. They all have pretty much the same components. Yes some offer more classes then others, some are open 24-hours a day, some are built for athletes, but they are all built to result in the same thing, fitness. However, the one thing that does make every gym different from the rest is member experience.Keeping members at your facility is about the member’s experience at the facility.
Are they getting the results they want?
Is the facility meeting or exceeding their expectations?
More importantly do, they want to come back day after day?How does the Apple iPad fit in all this?I have mentioned in previous articles how an iPad could be used by personal trainers. But how could a gym leverage this new technology to their advantage. Well one thought is the recent media buzz about the iPad could be a draw for members. Just advertising that you rent out or loan out iPads to your members might bring some interest to your club. However, I don’t see how that buzz could be sustained long term. Another thought is a workout application for members. Picture a member filling out there profile and they mention that they want to lose weight. The gym could rent out the iPad to the member during there workout. The iPad would have a workout application that displays the member’s custom workout. The member would have access to exercise pictures, descriptions, and videos at just a swipe of the finger. My final thought of using the Apple iPad is more general to all industries. It could be easily used as a sales presentation tool. Imagine a prospective member walks into the club, the sales staff takes the member to a relaxed location and has a conversation about the club, all while the sales staff shows the prospect details about membership dues and other details about the club. Using the iPad as a sales presentation device could be an entirely different article in itself. I’m sure there are many other ways to integrate the iPad into a health clubs, the ones I mentioned are just the beginning. I predict in a few years we will see more and more ways for the iPad and other tablet devices make their way into many different industries.
Have you looked into the personal fitness trainer salary range lately? Well, I have! I thought for sure that I would make a lot more income than what I was seeing being tossed around. Though, that was a while ago, my friends in the industry definitely wish that they could make more money with it without a doubt. However, since they as well as I love the aspect of personal fitness and training so much, we just do it out of that burning passion of helping people achieve fitness goals. It’s possible that you are of the same mindset, but still wished you could make a little more money with it!I learned recently that I could add to my personal fitness trainer salary, by investigating a new wave of opportunity that does not require any further education or degrees, yet would pay you an increasing residual income for developing your own enterprise as an online personal fitness coach. This is a really cool, innovative business model redefining the health and fitness industry. It made perfect; actually more than perfect sense to me, since I was already in health and fitness. But, do not get this confused as another job, but you are essentially coaching online and usually on a part-time basis! What a novel concept in the arena of health and fitness!Consider Yourself Notified: Basically, this article is to serve notice to those who are in or considering the industry that this new wave phenomena is a high-powered financial vehicle with jet engines that blows out heavy cash flow (income) as its exhaust! It is Explosive! Well thought out!Companies in the future that utilize such a business model online could attract a very large following of personal fitness trainers who want to earn more money part time than what they make full time once their business has grown. When speaking of personal fitness trainer salary, I should point out that since this is one’s own enterprise the word salary perhaps would not be the best choice of words, but the word income would best be suited for this opportunity.Nevertheless, if you love the industry and love helping then it may be something worth investigating for your financial future.Very Large Numbers of those who already know that they want a stronger personal fitness trainer salary, and love the health and fitness industry are investigating the overall potential of such a unique business model.
Earlier this year I attended the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Personal Trainers Conference. During the conference, I learned some useful information and received validation that I am on the right path when it comes to my personal approach to workouts and fitness in general. Since these types of conferences are a good reflection of current trends and future directions of the health and fitness industry, at least among true fitness professionals, I thought you might be interested in learning about the most discussed topics during the conference. On a side note, there are always personal trainers and other health and fitness employees who have no interest in increasing their knowledge or providing better information to their clients/customers. These people are not representative of the entire health and fitness industry, although they do make up a significant portion of it. The true professionals realize that health and fitness information is constantly evolving and we have to keep learning if we want to provide our clients with the most accurate information and the best quality service.Personal trainers and other health and fitness employees who are not interested in improving their knowledge or staying up to date with information are usually more concerned about making money than they are about their clients. Naturally, it is best to avoid these people whenever possible, because they generally provide lower quality products or services that will not help you effectively reach your goals and generally result in disappointment and frustration.Okay, with that little diversion out of the way, let’s get back to the conference. There were many different topics covered during the conference including nutritional issues, performance enhancement for athletes, training special populations (children, elderly, people with injuries, etc.), and more. However, even with this wide variety of topics, there were some topics that seemed to keep coming up over and over in different presentations.Probably the most frequently discussed topics were related to movement, specifically the importance of moving correctly and training to correct poor movement patterns. If you have followed my writings over the years, it should be no surprise that proper movement is very important to me and it is great to see that movement issues are taking a more prominent role in the health and fitness industry. There are many reasons why movement technique is getting more attention, but one of the driving forces is actually the rising cost of health care. As health care slowly shifts from just treating problems to actively preventing them, research has found that people who have incorrect movement technique are more likely to develop muscle and joint problems later in life, which results in higher numbers of joint replacements, falls, and other major problems. To make matters worse, these problems are not only found in the elderly. With the removal of physical education from many schools, children are growing up being less active. This not only has implications for increasing levels of childhood obesity, but it has consequences for movement as well. We are finding that inactive children are much more likely to have poor movement technique when they grow up, which results in premature deterioration of their body. Younger people commonly have physical problems that should not occur for another 10-20 years or more and many of these problems are the direct result of poor movement technique putting excessive wear and tear on their muscles and joints. The good news is these incorrect movements can be retrained and when poor movement patterns are replaced with correct ones, people can dramatically improve their long-term health. Unfortunately, training biomechanically correct movements is more complicated than just performing random exercises and exercising on traditional machines will generally not do the job. It takes concentration and awareness of what muscles are contracting and how each segment of your body is moving, along with the knowledge of how each movement is technically supposed to be performed. When all these elements are put together in a well-designed training program, people of all ages and ability levels can improve their overall health and physical function. This was evident at the conference, because there were sessions on exercising and training movements with many different types of people including, children, elderly people, athletes, pregnant women, and people with injuries. It is clear that training is advancing past simply working individual muscles and becoming more about training each muscle to work correctly with the rest of the body.Proper movement was not the only topic covered and many of the usual subjects were represented as well. On the nutrition side, protein intake and supplementation are still popular, because people are always interested in learning things they can do to improve their results. Another topic that continues to be noteworthy is eating disorders, along with the importance of developing good eating habits. People with bad eating habits (eating too much before they go to bed, eating too few calories, etc.), almost always have a hard time making progress, because even a great exercise routine can be undone by poor nutritional habits. There were also many sessions with practical information about different types of training and demonstrations of new training equipment. Much of the focus was on training to improve specific attributes, such as speed, agility, power, and balance. Improving these different characteristics is important for improving physical performance in athletes, but they also have applications for improving performance in everyday tasks and improving the quality of life in all segments of the population.Of course, no conference would be complete without sessions on core training, because everyone cares about their abdominal muscles. Fortunately these sessions were not about generic topics, such as training to get 6-pack abs, but rather training to improve the function of your body. The core muscles are essential for protecting your spine, maintaining good posture, preventing back pain, and much more, but many people still only think about how they look and not about how they function. The topics discussed above were not the only ones covered during the conference, but they were the most common ones. When looking at everything, it’s clear the overall theme and general direction of the health and fitness industry is learning to use specific exercises and movements to improve physical function in people of all ages and ability levels. As time progresses, hopefully training not just to improve appearance, but also to improve physical function, will become a standard for personal trainers and others in the health and fitness industry. Unfortunately, right now we are still a long way from that happening.
Factors That Put Your Life in Peril:These days, topics related to health have gained much momentum than before. Technology, industrialization, urbanization, deforestation, malnutrition, population growth, etc., have their lethal effects on health if not checked properly. The rate with which mankind is progressing for a better future has some underlying adverse effects, which upon years of negligence will lead to an irrevocable loss, i.e., life. So, the maintenance of good health whilst facing present-day challenges is mind-boggling. However, there are few factors which will ensure a good health if ever they are followed. In the discussion to follow, all the useful tips for a healthy life are discussed at great length for your convenience. Follow them and stay fit! What’s Your Definition of Good Health? It is very important to have an idea as to what constitutes a good health. Many have varied opinions and beliefs on this topic, but they certainly fail to understand the important essence of being healthy. Being healthy means a positive balance of body, mind and soul, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. So, the next time when you say you’re completely healthy then make sure you are mentally, physically and socially sound. Now that we know the definition of good health, the next step will be to find out ways to keep up good health. Good health combined by happiness will bring the quality of life. In order to attain good health one needs fitness in their regular life. Fitness directly correlates with one’s health.Purpose of Fitness:The purpose of fitness is to give you a better and happy living. Fitness is a measure of a set of attributes that helps a person to carry out physical activities. It can be strength, flexibility, endurance, etc., that will be determined by a combination of regular activity and genetically inherited ability. Many think activities such as gym, swimming, sports and aerobics will make them fully fit. Though this notion holds sway, the effective way of gaining fitness is to do some activity that you really like and with all possibility stick to it.It is not suggestible to do heavy regimens in the beginning of your fitness routine. This will only cause you to lose interest as it may leave you sore or weak. The best exercise to begin with is walking everyday. It will put all of your body parts to work, thereby, stimulating your hormone generation. The end result would be a complete fit body. In addition, take more fruits, dairy products, leafy vegetables and try to avoid cholesterol rich products. A healthy diet complied by perfect exercise will ensure 100% fitness.
Industrial facilities consist of a vast array of applications including manufacturing, construction sites, processing plants and so on. The usual sound issue in almost all the industrial applications appears to be the necessity to bring down the general volume of sound or lessen the level of decibel of particular machinery. The term machinery can consist of punch presses, crushers, printing equipment, grinders, drills, air tools, pumps, jack hammers and so on. The noise made by these machinery will apart from causing fatigue to operators, may not fulfill the safety requirements of regulating authorities or other noise ordinances of local bodies. To bring down the level of sound of such machines, the ideal remedial measure is to put up an enclosure that is soundproof surrounding the machine that makes the noise. It will not only eliminate the noise but also prevent the sound from infiltrating into the nearby equipment and machinery or the adjoining locations. There are several methods to achieve this. But most of these methods will need some kind of dense and/or heavy material and perhaps some extra amount of a soft absorptive material. In order to erect enclosures that are soundproof, you may like to think of using a mixture of the materials as follows:A sound barrier like mass loaded vinyl (MLV) used as a combination of structures in order to add weight and help to enhance the STC of the system. One square foot of this material weighs one pound. It is available as rolls and may be cut easily with a household knife.Alternatively, an enclosure or machine can be fitted with a lining of compound foam. This material consists of a film made of vinyl sound barrier sandwiched between two sheets of acoustical foam combining a sheet of heavy and dense material to prevent sound along with two sheets of acoustical foam that is absorptive. The barrier suspends as a flaccid mass in between the sheets of acoustical foam and decouples it from present enclosure surface thus improving its net effectiveness. Also, barrier blankets with ultraviolet ray protection can be assembled on-site all around the machinery to minimize the machine noises. The blankets made from quilted fiberglass can be made with a barrier septum or without it and is available fitted with grommets so that they can be hung. You can also have outdoor coverings that are optional when you require ultra violet ray protection for the material.Next, Cloudscape type ceiling baffle are installed in huge open spaces and metal structures having engineered truss systems lessening general sound pressure levels (SPL) and reverberation inside the room.
The messages of concern regarding the epidemic of obesity and its related chronic illnesses and diseases continue to be unheard or just plain ignored, as waistlines continue to expand and the lack of sufficient physical activity also increases. In a recent worldwide survey published in the ACSM’S (American College of Sports Medicine) Health & Fitness Journal over 4,000 health and fitness professionals reported their expectations and future solutions for 2007.”These trends are expectations of the front-line fitness professionals, not the latest infomercial spokesperson,” said Dr. Walter R. Thompson, the survey leader and author. “It’s also a fascinating peek at what to hope for as we seek health and fitness solutions for our overweight and inactive citizens.”Top 10 Health & Fitness Trends or 20071.Child Obesity – The need to address the root of the obesity epidemic will continue to be the number one focus for the coming year. The spotlight will again fall on schools, parents, and health professionals to start producing results. Issues such as junk food television adverts and the marketing of high fat – high sugar foods will come under increasing pressure and restrictions.2.Grey Growth – Specialized programs, and fitness clubs and initiatives will target the older adult, as the ‘greying’ communities continue to increase as we grow older and live longer.3.Positive Power – Strength training for everyone will gain extra importance in 2007; the older adults and especially women will incorporate more strength training into their fitness programs.4.Functional Fitness – Health & fitness programs will look to improve daily living activities. Exercises will seek to replicate actions you perform to help improve body wellness components such as balance, coordination, strength, and endurance.5.Back to Back – The core components of the body, abdominals, lower back, and all muscles around the body’s center will continue to attract the deserved high attention of people.6.Well Being – People will look for health and fitness programs which offer greater balance between the mind and body. Popular activities such as yoga and Pilates which offer improved flexibility, balance, and strength will continue to grow; these will also springboard a new generation of programs based on variations of these popular activities.7.Active Weight Loss – More and more weight loss programs which have been traditionally only nutrition based will offer exercise components to their participants.8.Health Tech – Programs will, with the help of new technology, offer new ways to define health and fitness goals, as well and the means to track their progress. This new technology will also provide the health care industry a way to determine the success in disease management.9.Professionals – The need for an international standard and fully accredited and certified health and fitness education programs and courses will gain momentum and increased importance as integration into the health care industry increases.10.The Personal Touch – People will be offered more one-to-one contact, programs, and consultancy. Tailor-made for individuals, specific fitness programs will meet the medical history and physical needs of participants. Fitness professionals will enjoy greater recognition and credibility among other health care professionals, in hospitals and health centers.Source: American College of Sports Medicine

Energy consumption has gotten very high among the various industries and residential facilities. Every little thing that goes on in the industries needs electrical energy. Electricity allows work in large-scale companies to be run automatically by machines. It is therefore not surprising that the company’s electrical bills are its largest overhead cost. This made a lot of companies look for alternative ways to generate electricity for their consumption so that their electric bills will be lesser and they could profit more out of their products. Also, the status of the world’s life hangs in a balance as the use of natural non-renewable resources quickly depletes the sources and hastens the earth’s death from ozone layer depletion and global warming. To help the earth and to help themselves, industries put up industrial solar panels that convert the sun’s useful solar energy rays into something that these industries need badly: electrical energy. Although it is not entirely possible to run everything on the electricity produced by the industrial solar panels, it is still enough to lower the bills. The electricity produced can be used for the lighting fixtures and for heating the building and the water systems. Moreover, other companies that extend their services to the people located in remote places need back-up for the electricity they need for the transactions. Therefore, small industrial solar panels were developed to power small industrial machines such as call boxes and roadside signs. One could only imagine the electrical power bills that the telephone and cellular phone providers would have spent on the pay telephone boxes or remote transmitters that dot the faraway towns. This is exemplified by the State of California, which chose industrial solar panels to light their telecommunications boxes instead of choosing expensive and high-maintenance underground electrical cables. Also, in many advanced countries, roadside signs are being lit by little industrial solar panels that do not need the long and expensive connection wires. With these solar panels, large industries do not need to be connected to the main electrical company to experience high-power electricity. A lot of manufacturers have come up with a way to incorporate solar cells to machines that are needed for pipeline monitoring in various oil and natural gas company systems. It is also necessary to obtain automation of various field machines in different industrial plants; therefore these machines are fitted with solar panels. This type of system is called off-grid.There are packages for grid-tied solar power systems. In general, grid-tied systems are tied to the power grid of the company’s electrical provider. Once an excess of electricity is produced by the industrial solar panel, this will be sent to the grid system and used like the original electricity. There are programs that would make the grid count backward to accommodate the new energy, and thus, the electrical usage will decrease. The electrical company will also gauge the new electricity produced and deduct this from the final bill. The company should just visit the provider of the industrial solar panels for advice as to which system would best fit their industry.
